BattleCON: Super Smash Bros. v2.0

This is the second version of the Super Smash Bros. BattleCON game I posted in 2015. I actually stopped working on it about a year later, in October of 2016. I do think it would be nice to start updating this more soon, but we'll see.
Mario and Bowser prepare to fight, board-game style!
BattleCON: Super Smash Bros. is a mixing of my two of my favorite games: BattleCON, a dueling board game inspired by fighting video games, and Super Smash Bros., a crossover fighting video game. Inpired by my desire to use Nintendo's amiibo figures in a physical board game, I set out to create a BattleCON version of Super Smash Bros. All the cards and components have been redesigned to fit with the video game's aesthetics and characters.
The first version of the game had only four characters. This version triples that with twelve. As for designing the gameplay of each character, I'm only solely responsible for seven of them. I had help with playtesting and character designs from online friends, too.
The board game is mostly a 1-on-1 fighting game. The original BattleCON system has a multitude of variants and game modes, a few of which appear here.
The top row of cards show the generic base cards, and the bottom row show an example of some character-specific style cards. In the game, the bases have blue card backs, while the styles have red.
In the game, both players have a set of generic cards (bases) and character-specific cards (styles).
A few examples of how the two types of cards combine. Note that not only do the styles add additional effects, but they also adjust the different stats of each base.
An attack is made by combining a style with a base, creating a unique attack for each character.
There are generally four types of extra pieces for a unique ability should one require them: Markers (e.x. Inkling), which can be placed on the board and can interact with the characters; Tokens (e.x. Mario), which can be anted by characters to provide a boost to their stats; Counters (e.x. Sheik), which merely help keep track of certain additional aspects; and Cards (e.x. Ryu), which are separate from Bases and Styles.
In addition to that, each character has a unique special ability, some of which involve extra pieces.
The previous "board" was built for portability. Each space was a card, and the different trackers and references were kept on cards. This particular version of the board was designed to be printed on a 14"x28" neoprene gaming mat.
Here is the new board. It tracks the life and force points for each character, along with a beat (or turn) tracker and some quick gameplay references.
Link and Ryu face off in the heat of battle.
Thanks for looking! This was a pretty fun project. The characters are in no way balanced at all (I think Inkling is too strong and will probably be the first one I'll edit once I clean up some new templates). So hopefully there'll be a next time with even more characters.
