The events behind this journey are largely improvised and spontaneous. Starting from Hong Kong, the images illustrate a journey through the Chinese cities of Kunming, Dali, Xingyi, Guiyang, Chengdu, and Chongqing. Along with the photographs of anthropologist Alicja Khatchikian, the book includes a series of drawings and a theatrical piece entitled Conversation on the Roof of Chungking Mansions by Lithuanian visual and theater artist Goda Palekaitė.
