Measuring Design Effectiveness-Online

Media Design Questionnaire
Using questionnaires is a way to gather information on the effectiveness of a design solution. In the Measuring Design Effectiveness - Online course, students created surveys to gather information from respondents who represented the target audience for which projects were geared towards.

Questionnaire Summary
The questionnaire was developed using SurveyMonkey and included 10 questions about various projects completed throughout the Media Design program at Full Sail University. These projects were developed as part of campaigns used to promote businesses, products and events. The components of each project were to create connections with the target audience while being functional and communicating a message effectively. Each of the projects tested were steps in the Mastery Journal being taken through the completion of the Master of Fine Arts Media Design program at Full Sail University.

The projects tested consisted of brand identity, logo design, website development, video production and re-branding. The questions were based on the following projects (each project is followed by the question presented on the questionnaire):

Questionnaire Respondents
There were sixteen respondents to the questionnaire developed with SurveyMonkey. The respondents involved were of various ages, races, and professions. The ages ranged from 19 - 45 and professions included design, healthcare, and academic professionals, college students, business owners, and professionals in cosmetology.
Questionnaire Responses
For the most part, the responses from the target audience confirmed what was anticipated about how the designs would be evaluated. It was anticipated that the final design solutions were effective and successful in communicating the intended goals and messages of the businesses, products and events for which they were created. The branding and marketing components were visually effective in boosting engagement and persuading the target audience to participate in an event and visit a restaurant.

The only response that wasn’t anticipated occurred with the question about the logo for Rainy Day Toys. The final logo choice was not successful in appealing to the target audience. In fact, out of the three logo choices presented, it was the least-favorite option. This insight is a helpful tool in assisting with the challenge of re-evaluating the interpretation of what the target audience views as effective and appropriate visuals in branding Rainy Day Toys. This would be helpful in evaluating the target audience of future projects as well.
