Design Brief:
To explore the possibility of engaging 3-6 year old children (including those with mild/moderate intellectual disability) in pretend play by using a layered toy that incorporates augmented reality and is suitable for indoor use.
The idea is to use augmented reality as a medium to stimulate imaginative play or pretend play in children, especially those that struggle with or have delays in the ability to imagine and pretend.
Pretend play is an essential part of child development since it helps them learn to deal with situations in their life through reflection, develops symbolism which is the base for language development, improves vocabulary and helps in empathy and understanding multiple perspectives.
