In the modern era of the 21st century is the collage technique very often used for the purpose of designing buildings or even cities.
With the abstraction, fragmentation, segmentation and the attribution of new room function being a part of this movement, two constructions from two different architectural ages were chosen, in order to be put together as one house: The contemporary Smith House, designed by Richard Meier and the classic Charlottenburg Pavilion from Friedrich Schinkel.
The Smith House, having an open and a close side, the massive side was replaced by a fragment of the Pavilion transforming it into the main entrance on the ground floor and bedroom etc on the first floor. The used segment of the Smith House didn’t suffer alterations in its function.
