Getting Started with Ubuntu 10.04 is a comprehensive beginners guide for the Ubuntu operating system. It's the first result of the Ubuntu Manual Project, a volunteer effort to create and maintain quality documentation with permissive licensing for Ubuntu and its derivatives.
I took on the job of designing the title page and a logo for the project.
To have easy to print PDF files, there are both Letter and DIN A4 formats plus wraparound covers for Lulu. Translations to languages like Hebrew require a right-to-left layout variant.
The title page is meant to give the (potential) reader an idea of what the document is about and should provide motivation to have a closer look. The mouse pointer is a hint in the general computer direction. 5 icons refer to covered topics.
The wave pattern is build from the Ubuntu Circle of Friends logo (which changed geometry with a recently launched new visual identity for Ubuntu, after I designed this ...). It's a unique element referring to the community aspect of Ubuntu.
