SENSORY YARN

Sensory Yarn is an interactive experimental textile for both visually impaired and sighted people. Extracts from Sándor Weöres’s verse cycle called Rongyszőnyeg were chosen, which were transformed into textile, using different textile techniques. The poem fragments appear as layers built upon each other on the textile, based on meaning. Each technique represents a sensory surface: seeing, hearing and touching. The sounding layer of the touchable verse’s text image appears with machine embroidery on the fabric, which was crossed through a special conductive strand. By touching the embroidered characters, the voice of the given text can be heard.
