Solar Stratos
Promotional Video
_

The main goal of the SolarStratos Video was to present the “To The Edge of Space Mission” main objectives, mission purpose and the execution in a fluid and effective way to the final viewer and potential investors. The video presentation is divided into 3 Chapters, where each Chapter has the different aim and message to deliver as a part of the main goal: Wouldn’t it be essential to go higher to show the capacity of renewable energy, here on the surface of our planet?

A New Dawn
Introduction
_

The first and the shortest scene starts in the stratosphere. The only visible element is ozone and sunrise reflected in Raphael’s helmet. A new dawn introduces the new beginning in technological achievement and presents the human wish for striving toward the starts. While the sun rises, the other elements become more visible: pilot, plane, cockpit. This scene continues until we see the full frontal SolarStratos plane levitating above the ozone edge.

Stratosphere
Chapter I
_

50km of a protectiveness: EXPLORE & PRESERVE.

The Stratosphere is only a 50km above us, but hardly known and explored by the science. The Second SolarStratos aim is to better understand this environment and possibly gain scientific knowledge that could be used for further exploration and protection of this Earth’s layer - And to achieve all of this without having negative impact on the environment. That being said, we are presenting the stratosphere and this fragile environment, with and without the SolarStratos plan.

75’000ft in Zero Emission
Chapter II
_

THE CHALLENGE: 75,000ft with zero emissions.

The aim of this chapter is to present the technological achievement of reaching 75,000 foot altitude with zero emission. Imagine yourself aboard a solar-powered plane flying in total silence at more than 75’000 feet. At this altitude you can contemplate the curvature of the planet and observe the stars during the day. For a hundred years it was necessary to use large quantities of energy or helium to reach the stratosphere now we are going to open the way for manned solar and electric aviation on the edge of space. Speaking through visuals, the plane is still in the stratosphere, however, we are going now closely to the cockpit and around the plane, showing details, solar panels and technology that will push the limits and allow winning 75,000ft challenge.

Planet Earth
Chapter III
_

This project should concerns the entire planet, it is accessible to all, it is for everyone. This a research tool for promoting sustainable vision of our life on Earth. In that purpose, we are landing the plane to the Earth after achieving the mission and reaching to the Planet Earth in it’s full diversity and glory. There are no better way to finish the presentation than by showing what we have and what we need to protect.

Creative Process
Behind the outcome
_

As the common process in every animation building, a lot of different aspects need to click together for the successful outcome. And to achieve this, a solid structure need to be behind. Almost every animation starts with an idea, story board presentation, story refining and general sketching. Than, after the chosen scenes and cameras, the model building and rigging comes as the next step. Furthermore, animation testing and animatic serves to determine all the moves and needed assets for the final production. Textures, lights, materials and hdri building wrap all the previous work and open the stage for the rendering, editing, post-production and music recording - the final steps in usual animation building. That being said, we are presenting below some of the processes that we have recorded during SolarStratos “To The Edge of Space” Animation.
