Djúpavatn Lake seen from Sveifluháls Mountain in Reykjanes Peninslula - #Iceland

Reykjanes peninsula has many interesting places and several natural wonders. In fact, one could easily spend a few days in Iceland and only visit interesting places on the Reykjanes peninsula. One of those beautiful places is Lake Djúpavatn, less than an hours drive from Reykjavík. It is a bit difficult to visit since the road is a kind of a Highland gravel road for 4X4 vehicles only. But that makes visiting the place just a bit more exciting and adventures. There are also a few interesting hiking trails in the are that take up two to four hours to hike. It is an advantage and a privilege in life to be able to drive such a short distance and enjoy peace and quiet in such beautiful places.

Eldvörp - craters covered in snow - Reykjanes - #Iceland

Eldvörp is a row of scoria and spatter cones formed in the Reykjanes Fires 1210-1240 AD in the Svartsengi volcanic system. The craters lie in a NE-SW trending row, extending from the south coast about 10 km inland, with the north end 2 km west of the Blue Lagoon. The lava emitted from the crater row is one of the most voluminous Holocene lava flows on the Reykjanes Peninsula, covering c. 20 km2.

- Víðisandur Beach – Reykjanes - #Iceland

I went out this morning to play with my NEW Reversed Graduate LEE FILTER.
I as many other Landscape photographers really like to play around the golden hours of sunrise and sunset, but with the rising or setting sun creating a very bright area close to the horizon it can be challenging to get the exposure right.

This type of filter is extremely useful in the wintertime in Iceland when the sun may be hovering only inches above the horizon so it can be really tricky to process the shot overall. The strength of the sun means it can appear blown out, and trying to adjust the exposure can leave other areas in the frame underexposed. When using one, you can prevent the sky from overexposing, while ensuring the area at the top of the frame isn't too dark.
In this shot I only used the Reversed graduate filter but in other shots I took this morning I used also ordinary graduate filter as well to balance the foreground (used it upside down). You can use as many filters at the same time as you want in the the same shot.

If you got filters, play around until its right. There is no law against that, right

Conclusion: Really happy with it and it will be used a lot.

- Hrafntinnusker geothermal area - Highlands - #Iceland

Landscape Photographers in Iceland are very lucky for the variety in the landscape and light. One geothermal are is called Hrafntinnusker and is in the Highlands. To reach some part of that area you have to hike for a long, long time through difficult areas or use helicopter (I can recommend Norðurflug). When you are up there it’s like Photographers paradise with endless unspoiled colorful nature, something unbelievable and difficult to imagine.  Hrafntinnusker Geothermal Area is a large obsidian field located just east of the infamous Mount Hekla. Hrafntinna is the Icelandic name for obsidian... Obsidian is black and glassy, and forms when rhyolite cools very quickly. The surroundings of this area are not only colourful, but also filled with many hot springs, steam vents, boiling mud pits and ice caves. Despite the hard ice, there is actually geothermal activity happening under the surface so it is not recommended to enter the caves.
