"Koivu I, II, III" ('koivu' - 'birch' in Finnish) are my three miniatures created in Finland during the summer 2017.

While I was at Arteles Creative Center, I was rummaging around in Finnish woods regularly. On those escapades I encountered some places where birch trees were cut down. They are sad places, but I found there rolled up and twisted forms of birch bark of unusual beauty. I decided to use them in my woven compositions.

Using in my art this kind of new discovered material is following the path I had chosen some time ago: to include in my creations up-cycled materials, which normally are not considered valuable.

"Koivu I", size: 15cm x 21.5cm.

"Koivu I", materials: birch bark, paper yarn, linen yarn.

"Koivu II", size: 14.5cm x 21cm.

"Koivu II" - birch bark, paper and linen yarn, up-cycled paper packages.

"Koivu III", size: 15cm x 19cm.

"Koivu III", materials: birch bark, linen yarn, paper thread.
