Alternative Album Covers

For this project, I looked at some of my favorite albums and took the challenge of redesigning their covers. My goal was to simplify the covers while using the albums names as the main inspiration.
For the cover Kamasi Washington's amazing album ''The Epic'' I kept it real simple. I just simplified the original album cover which by itself already looks pretty epic. I did add some color because I feel it does the music more justice.
For the cover of Figure 8, an album by Elliot Smith, I used the album's original theme and shaped it into the figure of an 8. I placed the 8 on its side to represent the infinity symbol. His music is still widely appreciated among his fans and lives on but Elliott himself died in 2003 at the age of thirty-four.
For the album, Sound & Color, I translated the title to soundbars colored by the colors of the rainbow. For each song on the album, there is a soundbar. For each bar, the size and color represent the energy and volume of the song.
Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly has a poem at the heart of the story of the album. This poem is on the redesigned cover. For the font, I used Lamar's own handwriting. On the back of the album, the tracklist is written by Kendrick. I scanned this and shaped the poem in the form of a butterfly, a reference to the album's title.

After the last song, Mortal Man, Kendrick reads the full poem out loud. I used this as the sound of the animation below.
