EXHALE

“I look at art as a container. You can't get inside it, so you have to ask all of these questions.” -  Mark Bradford

A cube condensed with hot water so the miniature forest within is encased in fog. Exploring themes of natural atmosphere and tranquility, the cube is used as an image making technique allowing for photographs which appear realistic and calming. Animations of woodland creatures is overlaid to suggest the inhabitants of the space. These are made by projecting basic vector animation into the breath of an actor to continue the foggy aesthetic. Overall, the work becomes a theraputic murmur of breath and serenity.

The film is then projected back onto the box to interact directly with the condensation. The cube appears to come alive and breath itself with every breath of the animation. The woodland creatures begin to inhabit the cube like a miniature ecosystem allowing the viewer to become the all seeing eye of omnipotence.
