RSA Social mail stamps

Project outline

To celebrate and encourage the art of letter writing through the design of a set of stamps. The stamps designs should be enticing and engaging that they prompt the customer to want to send a letter.

Outcome

Letter writing is slowly becoming a lost art, with technology and the need for instant communication increasing, the written word is fading, with that it is significant to look at the importance of what a letter can be and do. The stamps are a celebration of the art form and a reminder to people today that letters can open up a world in to the lives of others. I wanted to interest people with quirky and maybe unknown details that may not be expected, this emphasised with the turning of the stamps making it interactive with the sender and receiver where the text stops short of the punch line, the special edition book also working in that way where the discovered secret is the first to be revealed, adding an element of surprise. Letters hold a whole other world of secrets and untold stories that would otherwise be lost. The stamps look at the ordinary lives of the extraordinary, events, moments and thoughts that we wouldn’t have known about or expected to be part of that particular persons life. They act as a reminder to people today that writing letters is an important part of history, letters are like a time capsule for future generations. A text or email can easily be deleted or lost forever, a letter can always live on. What will future generations have to look back on and discover?
