I worked with BMT to help create an interactive training application for the Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers. The primary use for the application is to help familiarize staff and personnel with the layout and safety concerns of the ship, by allowing them to walk through the ship in first person.
This proved a unique challenge, mainly because the ship is very big (over 3000 compartments) and all compartments needed to be accurately represented. As well as this it was just a small team (less than 5) working on the project.
I helped build workflows for efficient CAD conversion and model creation, and defined a lighting setup in Unity which would allow each compartment to stream in during playback, and switch light states (without using real time lights).
The CAD was no where near being usable in the game engine, and mostly was just used as a scale guide. I spent a large amount of my working time rebuilding 3D models from the CAD and photo reference.
