Caitlin Franco guides the Equality Charter School in New York as co-founder and Executive Director, and works to positively impact the lives of children and adults who live in a challenging social environment. In a BronxNet program recently posted on YouTube, Caitlin Franco spoke on the school’s mission and programs designed to benefit community members of all ages.

As a public institution, Equality Charter School accepts all students from special-needs learners to those high performers who benefit from newly instituted AP class offerings. Individualized attention is a cornerstone of the pedagogical approach, with classes typically 22-24 students in size, and often led by two full-time teachers.

This emphasis on personalized learning was expanded to community members and parents two years ago through adult education offerings that take advantage of a previously empty building on campus. The concept is one of “school by day, adult learning center by night,” with 500 adults currently participating in no-cost classes that span family education and workforce development. As described on BronxNet, these have been bolstered by partnerships with institutions such as Bronx Community College and the New York City Public Library.
