CIPHER - Creating A Typeface

We live in a digital world. Electronics and computers have become a necessity in our lives rather than a luxury. Electronics rely on binary digits to communicate and function. We might not realize it but we use binary code in our everyday lives. We use them to represent numbers, letters, and instructions. Letters for example are represented using a byte (8 bits). Each bit is represented as a zero or a one. As a graphic designer this bridge of communication is of great importance to me; for this reason I have chosen to design my typeface based on binary code.

I used a preexisting font face as a base guide and placed the code of each letter or number accordingly within the shape. I used the font face “Agency FB” for the numbers, punctuation, and English letters. For the Arabic letters I used “Led Italic Font Regular” after adjusting the angle. I chose both those type faces as guides because they suited the digital style of the whole concept .I believe the design was successful because it combines both legibility and creativity.I decide on the name “Cipher” for the type face since it means ‘code’ and so perfectly describes the concept of the typeface and the function of binary codes.
