On 29th December 2013, Al Jazeera journalists, Peter Greste Mohamed Fadel and Baher Mohamed, were arrested by Egyptian authorities. On 23rd June 2014, they were found guilty by the court, and sentenced to seven years of incarceration for simply doing their jobs. Following the sentence, there was a global outcry to release the journalists.

We heard that the UN General Assembly was happening on 25th September 2014 in New York, so in order to send a clear message to world leaders we created ads that were placed in Times Square and on the back of the New York Times. Our aim was to put pressure on leaders such as Barak Obama and David Cameron to speak out against this injustice. By using an image of the ultimate symbol of justice and liberty with a tear in her eye, we believed this was the perfect way to get our message to the world.

On 1st January 2015 the Egyptian Court announced a retrial for the Al Jazeera colleagues. Then on 1st February, thankfully they were released.
