Brief
The goal of this student project was to design an exhibition for a theme of our choice. A rectangle exhibition hall of standard dimensions: 7,5m x 25m was given. It was asked to decide the exhibition content, form the shape of the exhibition hall and design the exhibition graphics.
The exhibition
Hatstory - Hats + History | Hats + story - is an exhibition about hats and their way back in history as well as hats and the "story" they tell about the person who wears it.
Hats go way back in history as they have represented different cultures with head coverings dating back from men and women depicted in ancient tombs to the current fashion icons.
Every hat has a story to tell because as with any accessory, the hat has been worn not only as a fashion statement but also for functional reasons such as warmth, safety , protection against physical elements like rain and sun, ceremonial reasons such as university graduation and religious reasons throughout the ages.
In the past, hats were an indicator of social status. In the military hats may denote nationality, branch of service, rank, and/or regiment. Police typically wear distinctive hats such as peaked caps. Also some hats are worn by people of a certain profession, such as the Toque worn by chefs.
