Can sound have a direct impact on an image?

Together with Mathilde Roussillat, I realized an experimental music video on how to to visualize sound.

In collaboration with musician Gisèle Pape, we interpreted her music piece NIGHT, dividing it into seven sound tracks. Each instrument (percussion, guitar, bass guitar, synthesizer, synthesizer bass, voice and vocal group) became a separate video, created and edited by Mathilde and Johanna (yoma). Once released together, the seven short clips morphed into an intriguing video composition.

Assigning one picture to one sound is the guideline of this project.

Exploring the magic of science, we play with gravity and perspective, using magnetic vibrations of energetic flows to visualize the invisible and to show sound morphing directly into images.

The images are a journey through the night and its elusive lights in the darkness : A macro shot of a powdery material dancing on an invisible surface metamorphoses into infinite space such as the depth of waters or the universe.

Surreal effects appear together with pulsating vibrant matters, sublimated faces, fascinating underwater shots and supernatural images in aesthetic colors, creating the cosmic night.

This project was presented for the first time this summer during the exhibition "Outlines" in Paris (Ateliers de Paris Bastille). An official full screen clip will follow and the collective is currently working on possible evolutions of the project like an immersive installations and an interactive experience.
