The purpose of this project is to activate children's different types of play, focusing on physical play, manipulation and creativity. the children get an opportunity to observe and explore, then understand how to use the object, and then in the end they are capable of creating new play by using the hourglass.
Through co-creation with children the importance of a frame for the play has become clear, and it is noticeable that the imagination of the children works as a driver for play.
The hourglass functions as a gamestarter in the sandbox. The hourglass becomes the frame for an open-ended play in the sandbox.
The hourglass is to be produced in materials that the partner company Norleg already uses. Norleg focuses on organic materials, which corresponds well with the idea of a piece of toy for a sandbox. The hourglass itself is to be produced in a light, transparent material, that enables the children to see the sand running through and observe the reaction of their action.
This project has been made as a school project in collaboration with students Karina Kranker and Queralt Barbany Albajar, and the partner company Norleg.
