Salt & Pepper Shakers
3D modeling & Plaster moldlmaking
I used Rhino 5 to design a set of salt & pepper shaker in bird's shape, inspired by the fact that pepper and some other spices are firstly eaten by birds then used by the human.
The shaker with a sharper head is the salt shaker; because I intend to make one shaker has fewer holes in order to let less spice inside to be pulled out, due to the theory that people should have more pepper but less salt, because pepper could boost up the metabolism process and salt will raise blood pressure which may bring extra burden to strain to the heart.
I did consider about the ergonomics and carefully designed the shape of the bird. The curves created enough space for the user to fit their fingers in and hold the shaker steadily.  For regular amount, the user could hold the shaker with his thumb at the neck and index finger at the back of the head then slightly twist the wrist; the user could also place the thumb at the lower space the belly pat, which creates a greater angle and makes it easier for the spice to be pulled out.
After I finished the 3D model, I used the Fusion Printer to print a prototype and used it to build a plaster mold. With the mold, I produced multiple copies for the critique in the class.
