VIRGIN SOIL
Multimedia project for FLAUNT Magazine
In September 2017, as the final episodes of the new Twin Peaks aired, Xiu Xiu, at a coastal-side Army and Navy Academy Chapel plays the music of Twin Peaks, originally commissioned by Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in 2015.
Artists Ekaterina Ozhiganova and John Clayton Lee create a multimedia survey built on Xiu Xiu’s recreation of Badalamenti’s original score.
sĭmŭlācrum , i, n. simulo, an image formed in the likeness of a thing,
I.a likeness, image, form, representation, semblance (class.; syn.: imago, effigies,
signum).
I. Lit., of images formed by art, reflected in a mirror, or seen in a dream; of
apparitions, visions, etc. (the latter mostly poet. and in post-Aug. prose).
II. In partic., with the predominant idea of mere imitation (opp. to that which
is original or real), a shadow, semblance, appearance, etc.
The pattern of destiny seemed clear, down and down into the soil, which lay virgin with the light. The sunbleached desert hillside — rocks broken and unfounded. The cabin was too dark to see — but there on the distant coast was a chapel where we were headed. A small mountain town known as Twin Peaks, where Dreams are Sold, for BOBCAT WORK CALL NICK.
Music by Xiu Xiu recorded at Army and Navy Academy Chapel in Carlsbad, CA
