As a marketing specialist for Rochester Institute of Technology's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences marketing department my team was tasked with revamping our college's website, cias.rit.edu. The site had not been redesigned since its launch seven years prior. Since RIT was set to create website templates with implementation at the university level by late 2018, we had to choose which elements needed the most attention.
My team went through our navigation and decided based off of website hits what we needed to remove and add, below is an image of our old homepage.
The scrolling headliner was updated to allow new and events to be featured more heavily. On the old site we featured images from each of our schools that provided minimal information about what our college encompasses.
We added a list of all the programs we offer, as the main goal of our website is to recruit future students. This allows for prospective students to see everything we have to offer in one list, our previous navigation broke down our programs by schools, constraining the exploration of programs.
Finally, we added new modules at the bottom to bring light to our research centers. Previously, they had been buried in the website footer and did not receive the proper attention.
Throughout the website I helped create designs branded with hexagons for our modules. As seen in "More Events" and "Graduate Programs" below.
One of the most visited pages on our site is prospective students, so we decided to give extra attention to that page, below is the old version.
We wanted prospective students to have a more rounded view of RIT's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, so we added several modules. The modules allow us to focus on the most important things a prospective student or parent would be looking for in a college experience. How it turned out is pictured below.
Finally, we decided to create a new page to focus on our web and physical gallery spaces, see below.
