This project was a classical book layout involving three stories from the book Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. The book was utterly fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed reading through it.
The concept for the book was to create images that reflected the content of the stories, so I listened to the audio book and drew images as I heard the story unfold. The first story told of a wonderful city with a massive language barrier. So I drew a man looking up at an Aramaic letterform with an arduous path to get there.
The second story was ultimately about metamorphosis and how the city creates itself anew when it is bored with its current form. I chose to silhouette a moth with a cityscape as it's wings.
The final story told of how things are not as they seem and those who seem least in control are the ones pulling the strings. I chose a marionette image of a woman who seemed very much out of control.
