The original package was a blister pack with layers of plastic and cardboard held together by glue, and it packaged a lot of air. The redesigned package reduces the amount of materials used in the packaging. The tag wraps around the rings advertising the product initially, then when it is reversed it snaps in place to hold the rings together when transporting them to the pool. This allows for a fun pattern to be seen by the children and parents who will continue to use the product, and allows the packaging to be reused as well. To prevent leakage, the tag has temporary stitching holding it in place around the rings that can be removed easily once the customer takes it home. Since it is a reusable package and is used near water, it is important that the material is waterproof. This is why it is made out of EcoMedia banner material, a more eco-friendly alternative to vinyl. When designing the graphics for the tag, I wanted to keep diversity in mind. The original package uses photographs of caucasian children only, so I used silhouettes of children to allow for a more diverse audience to see themselves using the product.
