Carpathian myths
This project is about some interesting and at the same time scary myths from the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains.
And I'm going to tell you about them briefly.
      Mavka
Mavka is a type of rusalka, or female spirit, in Ukrainian mythology.
Mavkas often appear in the form of beautiful young girls who entice and
lure young men into the woods, where they "tickle" them to death.

      Sylun the Giant
A legend on how mountains were created. A young man, by the name of Karp,
hid Sylun the giant underground and everytime the giant attempted to break free,
by hitting his head against the earth's crust, a new peak appeared.
And that's how mountains were created.

      Synevyr
According to the legend, the picturesque lake was formed from the stream of tears of
the count's daughter Syn', where her beloved young man, a simple Verkhovyna shepherd by
the name of Vir, was killed with a stone block, by the order of the Count, because of his beggarly descent.

      Hoverla
A myth about a girl that was turned into a mountain by her father (Tsar of the mountains),
simply because she ran away to a rural young man, that she loved.

      Chuhajster
Chugajster hunts forest mermaid-like female spirits, mavkas.
By hunting these forest creaturs, the Chugajster prevents harm,
which they can inflict on people, especially men working in the forest.

                                                            Thanks for watching!
