After having endured the workingcamp of Gulag/ Kolyma, we are banished and are no longer allowed to reside the big cities. We are ordered to move the least 100km away, and we create a society and a city called MALGIL, centered 101 km. from Sct.Petersburg.
(MALGIL is in russian an interpretation of the hebrew word GLM-GOLEM. A GOLEM is a person created by clay and infused breath).
We are in MALGIL in the local bar called "PAYKA". (PAYKA is the russian word for the bad bread the inmates were to eat in the Gulag camps).
In PAYKA we are all gathered and affected by the cruelty and forced labour, we experienced in Gulag.
Before Gulag some of us were dancers or criminals or housewifes maybe. We are poor and some very exhausted, some are dreamy and some still recall the beauty of the past before Gulag. The year is 1938, Stalin is in charge and the 2. world war is soon to come. We are in a state of not knowing what to expect of the future. This night as any other, we meet at PAYKA as the characters who live in MALGIL 101KM. FROM SCT. PETERSBURG.
