Shepard Fairey converted the image of this fighter "André the Giant" into an icon of contemporary popular culture. Artist pioneer in propagating the technique of stickers like street intervention. His original project was a high contrast photo of André the Giant, as a message without content and with the main intention of surprising the passerby and spectator.
The original motto / name was "GIANT HAS A POSSE", but later the concept of Fairey began to make more present aspects of social and critical philosophy of the system, and was including the word "OBEY" thus adding greater impact and absurdity to the aesthetics of the subject. The first stickers were photocopied and placed by Fairey locally or on their travels, but soon began to distribute copies, print them with paper quality, definition and inks, and mail them to friends and onlookers, making their stickers placed in the collective spaces of many countries.
He has made different versions of the same theme, and has also included them in exhibitions, posters, t-shirts, designs for skateboard prints, etc. Nowadays, the work of Shepard Fairey and his motto / brand "Obey" are recognized worldwide

André René Roussimoff, más conocido como André the Giant, fue un luchador profesional y actor francés. Campeón Mundial en Parejas de la WWF, y en 1993 tras su muerte, se convirtió en el primer miembro del WWE Salón de la Fama.
Shepard Fairey convirtió la imagen de este luchador "André the Giant" en un icono de la cultura popular contemporánea. Artista pionero en propagar la técnica de pegatinas como intervención callejera. Su proyecto original, fué una foto en alto contraste de André el Gigante, como mensaje sin contenido y con la principal intención de sorprender al viandante y espectador.
El lema/nombre original era "GIANT HAS A POSSE" (El Gigante tiene una pandilla), pero más tarde el concepto de Fairey empezó a hacer más presentes aspectos de filosofía social y crítica del sistema, y fue incluyendo la palabra "OBEY" (Obedece) sumando así mayor impacto y absurdo a la estética del tema.
Las primeras pegatinas fueron fotocopiadas y colocadas por Fairey de forma local o en sus viajes, pero pronto empezó a repartir copias, imprimirlas con calidad de papel, definición y tintas, y enviarlas por correo a amigos y curiosos, haciendo que sus pegatinas fuesen colocadas en los espacios colectivos de muchos países.
Ha realizado diferentes versiones del mismo tema, y también las ha incluido en exposiciones, posters, camisetas, diseños para estampados de monopatín, etc. Hoy en dia, la obra de Shepard Fairey y su lema/marca "Obey" son reconocidos mundialmente.
