Funky Fiction — Branding

This concept is part of a broader brief from a University course. I was asked to design the branding for a fictional band of my invention based on the assigned genre, in my case Funk Music
The aim was to echo to stereotypical aspects of this music while giving it a contemporary twist and strong versatility.
Funk music is a kinda tricky genre: on the surface it seems extremely "encoded" but it changed a lot during the last 60 years.
The logo is inspired by the typical typography used in funk culture although is strongly geometrical.
I pictured the Funky Fiction as an L.A. based duo at its first major record, that's why I created some band posters as well as a record concept with a promotional billboard of the tour.
