Imaginary Friends

Imaginary Friends Card Game

Imaginary Friend (also known as pretend friends or invisible friends) are a psychological and social phenomenon where a friendship or other interpersonal relationship takes place in the imagination rather than external physical reality.)

Children invents Imaginary Friends to express their difficulties and practice social interaction before having it in real life. Imaginary friends can also help children to cope with fears, ex- plore ideas, or gain a sense of competence through learning from or taking care of the imaginary friend.

Take the inspiration from well-known Cards Against Humanity, I intend to design a card game for friends and families to practice the creation of Imaginary Friends.

With the potential of freedom in gameplay, the imaginary friend is created by player with contextual information based on player’s intuition and POV. By providing and relying on these narrative elements instead of more constructed stories and texts, the narratives of these games are made to invite variation that is more integral to the gameplay.
