WHAT IS CAREER AND INTERN READY?

The Digital Corps paired up with the Career Center at Ball State to help students enrolled in Career and Intern Ready programs stay up to date on their progress. Over 4,000 students have used the program during the past semester to prepare themselves for internships or post-grad life.

The team built a website where students are able to check their overall progress, submit tasks, view upcoming events, and submit substitutes. We also added a notification system that allows students to view messages from the administrators. Prior to this system, students would either call or visit the Career Center to get up updates on their progress.

WHAT DID I DO?

Brainstorming for this project began early in the spring semester. I was actively involved in the wireframing and prototyping phases, helping to decide what actions were needed in the program. Because we were working with an already-existing backend, we did not have much flexibility in the content but needed to find a way to make the data beneficial to students.

I was not as involved in the visual design phase but worked full time over the summer to complete the front-end development before the beginning of the new academic year when the site would go live. This was the first time I worked in React, which meant I had a lot to learn. By the end, I had improved my general CSS, flexbox, Javascript, and git knowledge.
