I am fascinated by the intense faces and stares of photographic portraits from the first half of the 21st Century. They belong to nameless women that entrusted their whole soul to that snapshot. They carefully selected their best (and often their only) dress, jewellery and hairdos.
Their gaze, their request for attention nestled inside me: sometimes, while sketching, one of these faces takes shape on the sheet.
