Apple Music is a streaming service that launched back in 2015. Since then, it passed through a lot of design changes. Here is some thoughts that I would love to see on this platform.
With iOS 11, Apple introduced the Today tab on the App Store, and it has been quite awsome. You can check out the latest and curated apps, interviews with developers and so on.
The Today view on Apple Music is here to upgrade the “For You”, giving you recommendations based on what you and your friends listen, your favorites shows on Beats 1 and your favorite artists on your library. It is yet your hub for notifications of new artists realeases and upcoming shows on Beats 1. And it’s really simple!
Everyday new cards appear with new content for you. If you want save something to listen later or through out your week, you can pin the card at the top of your list. If you want just listen what’s going on, just press the big play button. Want more information, open the card and read through the story.
The cards could be anything related to the service, from an album release or new episode of an original series to new playlists from curators on the service
Moving along, another problem is the search tab and the lack of a videos tab. A hole search tab is nonsense on a service with so much content and almost no screen space. So I replaced the search for the Watch tab.
With the Watch tab you can find easily all the content produced by Apple and Beats 1. The search has been dissiminated through out all the pages. Instead of 1 search, you can have 5.
And at last, I got really sad when I go to my library, where there’s no ads for other music, album, concerts, shows, and what I see is a list. Really? A list? My music is (not) a list. So with that in mind I just put a simple and clever horizontal slider.
Hope you like it, and if you want to see all the storie behind this project you can check out the Medium post I made about it: https://medium.com/@gustavoantoniogonalves/i-saw-a-redesigned-apple-music-so-i-kinda-redesigned-it-again-8b3dfb5c5abf
