Road Rage

CART Multimedia Project 1 - Road Rage PSA Campaign
Our goals for the 30 second Public Service Announcement video was to spread awareness about road rage and get people to prevent it from happening. In our PSA campaign, we wanted to tell people that if you experience road rage to stay calm and think of the aggressor's perspective. In our videos, we wanted to show examples of road rage so drivers could understand that they wouldn't want these action to affect them and get them to prevent road rage. During this project we used Adobe Prelude and Adobe Premiere Pro to help process and edit our videos and for the graphic we used Adobe Illustrator. Our personal goals for the PSA campaign were to learn the basics of shooting and editing film and creating graphics to go along with them. Our video team shot our footage using a Sony HDR-CX900 camera to shoot in full HD, and a RODE shotgun microphone to record clear audio. For graphics we used Adobe Illustrator, to develop the logo and Magazine Ad converting a hand-drawn design and images to assemble the finished product.

I used a variety of shots ranging from medium shots to an over-the-shoulder shot to a closeup shot. I used a unique shot of the inside of a car, where you can view a medium shot of the the driver and passenger inside of the car, to see how carelessly they are driving. I used the rule of thirds to make the shots more visually appealing. In one of my shots, I had to make it appear as if a car had to brake hard behind a slow car. I used a close shot of the “fast” car pulling up behind the slow car at a very slow speed and slamming on the brakes. For our logo during the last 3 seconds of PSA I made sure to use the exact same logo as my partners.

I used mostly the medium shot and long shot to film most of the PSA, my road rage was more about the actions and talking and there weren't a lot of scenes. As for tailgating and cutting off each other I used a wide/ long shot and for the confronting I used medium close up to get the emotions or expression out of the drivers. This had a very intense music because I wanted the viewers to feel like there is something dramatic is going to happen.

My goal for my PSA was for people to understand that you should stay calm when you interact with someone who has road rage while driving. I used Henry as the aggressor because research says that males are more prone to participate in road rage than females. For shooting I used many different camera angles and wide shots to help tell the story of the two cars on the street. I used medium close up shots to get the audience to see the action inside the car when the aggressive driver passed the slow car.

My Magazine Ad presented an image of an aggressive driver from a front view of a car to convey an emotion of road rage. To create the headline I used a specific font choice, bold Lao UI, to be able to send the message of “Don’t let it consume you.” As for the body copy and call to action, both have different font styles to also spark a message of what my Magazine Ad is trying to send. Our logo design was presented as “C.R.S.” (Cali. Road Safety), in front of the first letter “C” it shows the part of a back car and with the last letter “S” being dragged out towards the end to show a roadway. I wanted our logo to connect with our PSA topic of Road Rage, spreading awareness of the common issue in society.
