BLKKK SKKKN HEAD / Animated Visuals

"Making its debut on SNL, Black Skinhead (stylized as BLKKK SKKKN HEAD in reference to the KKK) is a dark, rebellious and near-tribal record that threads between both Ye’s traditional braggadocio and anti-establishment, anti-racism themes."

This project was developed in 2016 by Rita Figueira and Vânia Oliveira within the subject Animation III of the course Multimedia Communication Technologies. The goal was to create an animation that could convey in a dynamic way the rhythm and message portrayed by a music or set of sounds of our own choice, through graphics, colour and movement - a visual representation of sound.

We chose to create animated visuals for the song BLKKK SKKKN HEAD by Kanye West (Yeezus, 2013), due to its strong sense of sonority and concept, which were highly suggestive visually. Our visual references consisted in the following keywords:

Klu Klux Klan . human . black . white . revolt . fight . escape . racism . pain . death . blood . red . deconstruction . rupture . oppression . angular . geometric . minimalism . glitch . harsh . contrast
