A redesign of the cover of the classic novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, using handmade type and photography to create the text for the title on the front cover, for Typography II.
Fahrenheit 451 tells the story of Montag, a fireman living in a dystopian society where books are burned rather than read.  When I originally read Fahrenheit 451 in high school, I was struck by the society in which Montag lives, where people are constantly distracted by television and technology instead of making real, human connections with one another. After re-reading the book before creating this cover, I was once again struck by this society, especially the image of a television screen, and tv static. I used this image to guide me as I created the cover, which I wanted to be mysterious, and colorful, while hinting at static and digital technology.  On the flaps and back cover, I changed up the classic layout of secondary information often seen on book jackets and used a low hang line to align the text.
Overall, I am very happy with how this turned out, and I really enjoyed the process of designing a book jacket, from idea generation to creating the final piece in InDesign.
