Cyborg Soirée: As part of the month long FRACTALIZE exhibition, I wanted to host a social event where socializing was prohibited. The only interaction allowed was through technology. Even though we were all in the same room, everyone connected and communicated, with the characters in the narrative and other audience members, through their social media using their smartphones. As audience members entered the room, a gallery docent gave them the universal 'shush' gesture and pinned to the screens on the surrounding walls. Then each audience member was left to discover for themselves how to participate in the Cyborg Soirée as both audience member and performer. The lines became blurred. It was AWESOME!
For the exhibition closing event we had an artist talk followed by an alternate reality. Part way through the artist talk I stood up, left the stage, and asked everyone to follow me. They did. I walked outside and asked everyone to look for a QR scan and when they found it they were to scan it with their camera app. Then I walked away, leaving everyone to uncover the final bit of mystery that was the framework for FRACTALIZE. Once the QR code was scanned, audience members were guided on their screens by FRACTALIZE leading lady, Elizabeth Perfidy (played by Alexis Hancey). Elizabeth asked the user to follow her, and as they did she shared her inner world within the narrative, filling in missing pieces to complete this love story across space and time.
