Medusozoa Siri Siri
Mixed media Installation | Cinnamon Colomboscope 2017

The project is focused upon disposable ‘siri siri’ plastic bags, and its similarity to jellyfish. Some species of which are thought to live for a thousand years, coincidentally plastic bags have seemingly eternal lifespans as they take over a thousand years to disintegrate. The plastic bags, ending up as floating trash in the oceans look no different than jellyfish to the eyes of hungry turtles and fish. The plastics, with their inability to decompose or be digested, just break down into smaller and smaller pieces and eventually culminate in polluting the entire food chain. The process, starts from the jellyfish and ends in the human system.

The siri siri bags being used for this project have been collected during the relief efforts for the
Meethotamulla garbage dump disaster which occurred in Colombo June 2017.
