Client:
The client is a tech and electronics company called Jackalope, which specialises in producing devices like smart electricity meters, thermostats and other types of home peripherals. The company prides itself on their elegant and unique industrial design and offers products that are aesthetically suited to both modern and period homes. Jackalope is looking to update their product line and take the business into the 21st century. They are particularly interested in the emerging industry of home automation, smart devices, the Internet of Things (IoT) and home Artificial Intelligences systems like Amazon's Echo. They are interested in leveraging the strong brand recognition of their home peripherals to create a new smart device to act as a home control centre or home hub. This device will monitor power usage, control temperature, act as a security device and provide Artificial Intelligence services.

The purpose of the home hub is to act as an elegant control centre for the home, connecting smart devices and providing a central control point for devices like media players and speakers. It will also offer more utilitarian functions like power monitoring and acting as a smart thermostat taking into account the weather forecast, time of day and other aspects when controlling things like the temperature. If the user has solar panels, the home hub can also take this into account and run energy-intensive tasks like heating and cooling during the day when energy from the sun is greatest, reducing electricity costs and allowing people to walk into a perfectly cooled/heated house after their day. It will also connect to an Artificial Intelligence service.
