With this project, I was tasked with creating functional logos by forcing together six unique word pairs.  Each mark would not only have to make sense in relation to the word pair, but also utilize negative space in a creative way.

For each word pair, I created two word webs, branching off into their own related words and concepts.  Then, I tried to find ways to connect the two webs in a logical way, drawing lines from a word in one web to a related one in the other.  In this way, I was able to come up with more interesting concepts and create a literal pathway toward a solution to the visual problems presented to me.

I've reached the point where I can render designs and iterate on them very quickly while working in Illustrator.  This is essentially my process after a considerable period of preliminary work on paper.  My works in progress were critiqued by my peers as well, which led to some helpful changes across the board.  The only labor intensive bit here was using a picture of an actual zebra as reference for the minimal stripe pattern in my "Lucky Zebra" design up top.

After this project, I feel like I have a better sense of the range of thickness and spacing which allows designs to be scalable.  If some lines or shapes are too small/thin, or if certain elements are very close, then those details could be lost when your logo is sized down.  The smaller you can make your logo while still being readable, the better.

Also, there's a lesson here about time management, but who knows if I'll ever learn it at this rate.
