Abstraction/Light & Scale: Playing with light...

Before doing this workshop, I had been interested  in learning this technique for ages, that I am glad to be able to use for future works.

How they are all made:

Using a Canon 700D on a very slow shutter speed of 0.8 and dark space, I had a tripod set up in a classroom with the lights all turned off. From there using nothing but the light on my phone I created strong gestural movements.

The colour was achieved through the use of the application Color Flashlight.

Editing techniques used whilst making this light painting series were: opacity, brightness/contrast, layering and fill.

Did these colour photos work out?

Better then what I was expecting. When creating these images, I had so many images to chose from, so combining a few images for each, I adjusted the opacity, brightness/contrast and experimented with the layering and fill to get the outcome of what is apparent.

If I reattempted this, I would maybe speed up the shutter speed to capture more soft gestural movements. The only problem I have with this series of images (the coloured ones) is the thickness.

In this instance, I feel as if the fine, flashlight images were more successful. Using the same methods to create the coloured ones, this one is more successful to me as the gestures appear more natural, which was what I wanted to achieve with these images.

I am looking forward to expanding and improving on this technique in my arts practice.
