PowerCraft
1-week Business challenge
To tackle the emerging energy criss, our team developed a mobile tower difference game that can educate people about the latest renewable energy solutions. We used real-life energy consumption and weather data of a Finnish summer to build this game. 

The challenge is 1 week, but our diligent team started early so I had 2 weeks to finalize all the game arts and videos.
Game Story
"In the year 2070, the earth is attacked by invading aliens. To increase their success rate, the aliens make sure to cut off our energy source, which mainly come from oil and coal. Without energy, the human defence force fell quickly, and earth became an Alien’s colony. At the start of the game, as one of the survivors, players will have to battle invading aliens to defend their home base. The player’s objective then becomes liberating Earth from the aliens, one household at a time."
The game will contain many levels that represent many different locations around the world, players will unlock additional content through each challenge. To clear a level, players have to build a strong defence​​​​​​​ with sufficient energy to withstand the alien attacks.

Resource
There are 2 types of resource:
Energy: Can be generated by power generator (solar panel, Wind turbine, hydroelectric generator)
Mineral: Can be collected from aliens, or mineral tree
Enemies:
The electricity consumption is represented by various enemy types:

The blue slime represents the cooling energy consumption
The red slime represents the heating energy consumption
The alien bot represents the water heating
The bat represents the lighting energy consumption
There are 3 types of a facility that can be constructed:

Power generator:
These facilities can collect the energy from natural resources ( sun, river and wind) and convert it into electricity, which can then be used to power other buildings
Solar panel: The basic generator, cheap, energy generated depends heavily on the sun
Wind Turbine: middle-class generator, it gives more energy than the solar panel, however, it’s more expensive, and needs the wind to operate
Hydroelectric plant: the most expensive one, however, it provides a stable energy current and does not depend on the weather. It needs to be built on a river bank
And in the advanced level with other technology
Defense:
These structures include laser turrets, cannons, etc. In general, these architectures will attack the incoming aliens. Each of them has a different design with a different range, damage, fire rate, etc. All of the defence buildings need energy in order to operate
Laser turret: cheapest option, have a good fire rate. Best for starter can be upgraded
Cannon: Throw energy balls at the aliens (because they deserve it), low firing rate, but cause devastating damage and has area effect
Tower: have long range but low fire rate
Utilities:
The utilities contain the architectures that can have various functions, such as shield generator, carbon tree and repair centre. We plan to add later but for now, its main usage is to
Battery: extending energy storage
Carbon tree generates carbon over time. The mineral can then be used to build structures
Shield generator: Generate a shield over time that can be used to block damage, adding a good defense layer to important structures
Home base
This is where the players can do the upgrade and research in order to unlock new technologies and buildings. The main interaction with other players also happens here.

Main Laboratory
Players can upgrade their base level here, a new level will unlock new slot for the research center, so more technology card can be applied. They can also unlock new kind of power plants ( ocean wave, thermal, etc) from here

Research Centers
Every technology cards that the players obtained can be used in different research center according to the categories. By collecting technology cards and different materials dropped from the aliens, players can research a new technology.  (It takes approx. 5 real hours, during this time, other players can come and steal the technology card )

Energy research center
Every energy technology cards that the players obtained can be used here if the player has enough materials. Upgrades will mprove the solar panel’s productivity, construction speed or even give it a new feature.

Defense research center
The new technology of defence system can be upgraded here. It will improve the current defense infrastructure by boosting their weapon stats. Also, it’s possible to unlock new weapons with some special cards.

Utility research center
Utility building can be upgraded here with the corresponding utility cards. New abilities and buildings can be unlocked.

Trading center
The trading center enables players from all around the world to trade the technology cards they have with other players. This increases the user interaction, as well as provide an additional method for players to acquire the technology cards they need.

Portal
With the portal, players can travel to other realm and try to either steal their technology cards ( while they are being researched) or help them defend the raid from other players
Technology cards
The technology cards will play a very important role in the player’s strategy. They can apply it to their current structure, customizing the strategy in order to get past the challenging level as well as improving their performance score to gain more rewards.

The card system should be divided by category ( utilities, wind, sun, hydro) and rarity (common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary). If the player has completed the card researching, the bonus points from the card will be applied to their current infrastructure. The following variables can be improved through researching:

For every building:
Building Cost
Construction time
Hit point
repair rate

For energy generator:
Productivity
Weather adaptation


For defence structure:
Fire rate
Damage
Range
Recharge cost

The technology cards can be obtained using the technology box, which the user can get from clearing a level with maximum rating ( 3 stars). It can also be rewarded from the in-game activity such as demand response event.
