In Hungary, leaver classes of secondary and grammar schools traditionally create a leaver class photo that typically consists of individual portrait pictures of students and their teachers. These are then framed and displayed on the corridors of the schools. In 2016, together with a friend, we designed our class’s photo using SketchUp. Our idea was to create a modular 3D structure that protrudes from the plane of the wall and therefore it stands out from the normally two-dimensional class photos. The design consisted of multiple brick-shaped modules, each bearing a single portrait. Due to the pattern of the bricks, the portraits could only be viewed when facing the installation. As a result, the pictures slowly appeared and disappeared as you passed by.
The following pictures represent the building process from building components to the final piece. The installation was made of painted polystyrene foam bricks and printed PVC foam boards.
