Biocalcite Vertical Farming Concept
In the future, bio-printing will stimulate the growth of self-assembling molecules to form structures as large as buildings. These buildings will have a mutualistic symbiotic relationship with the vegetation that grows on them, providing a localized farm-to-table architecture. The frame of the building optimizes light penetration by exposing large amounts of the interior to natural sunlight. The crystalline matrix of calcium carbonate is strengthened with proteins and other organic matter to form the hard, durable building material. The design of the building was inspired by bone formation and the ability to embed bone forming cells for 3D bioprinting/rapid prototyping of cells.
