Practical Project - BFA in Digital Arts Thesis

This exploration entails the subject of mindfulness in conjunction to design, and how one can experience the resulting effects of mindfulness meditation which culminate through a visual design language within a handbook.

An aim of this study was to gain an understanding of how mindfulness works to counteract negative emotions and ailments that arise due to anxiety. Books such as 'Headspace' and 'Calm' were used as reference points to ground the project. It was also seen how an artistic medium can be applied to diminish such problems. With the use of interviewing and focus groups as methodological approaches, data was collected and analysed in order to create the final product.

The project consists of the creation of a designed handbook and a set of posters which instruct the readers and viewers on the practice of mindfulness, so as to help gain an experience and a sense of calmness in the present moment.
