Modern homes are equipped with remarkable technology. However, most of it is geared towards convenience, and ignores a nasty reality: our homes aren’t particularly conducive for sleep. Incorrect lighting, a constant availability of poor food choices and a myriad of bright screens are just some of the factors that make us highly susceptible to sleep deprivation. Home Sleep Home asks how we might harness the technology that surrounds us to make it easier for us to get sufficient rest. Potential interventions are based on a system of recognition of individuals within the home, and an adaption of conditions based on those individuals’ particular sleep needs. These include directional lighting with real time tracking, viewer-aware television programming, sleep cycle food suggestions and device screen blurring.
