“The Friends of the Detroit River envisions an ever improving quality of life for people, plants and animals in southeast Michigan and southwest Ontario. We will do that through the development of a balance of grass roots advocacy and staffed programs, forming an environmental group that watches and protects the Detroit River. Our efforts will include the creation of a highly visible resource center focusing on Detroit River issues, programs, research, policies and partnerships.”

The proposed headquarters for the Friends of the Detroit River (FDR) will function as a positive office environment for the organization as well as an exceptional public event/ exhibition space in order to raise awareness and money for the organization. The headquarters will integrate with nature as well as it resists the eroding elements. It will stand the test of time, housing the organization for as long as they need. The area surrounding the headquarters will be appropriately landscaped and open opportunities to educate the public in a passive manner.
