About the Project
O cinema, a TV, os jogos e outras formas midiáticas muitas vezes vendem a ideia de que o valor de uma mulher está em sua juventude, beleza, e sexualidade, e não em sua capacidade como líderes e protagonistas de suas histórias.
O documentário “Miss Representation” (2011), inspiração para esse projeto, trata desse assunto e das consequências da exposição de meninas e garotas adolescentes a essas ideias. Assim, a falta de representatividade midiática feminina é o problema tratado por esse TCC.
TV, movies, games and other types of media often promote the idea that a woman’s worth is related to her youth, beauty, and sexuality, instead of their abilities as leaders and heroes of their own stories.
The 2011 documentary “Miss representation”, which was the mais inspiration for this project, talks about this problem and the consequences of the exposure that young and teenage girls to these ideas. Therefore, tha lack of female representation on media was the subject to this graduation project.

O livro conta com uma história original e cinco histórias curtas biográficas de seis mulheres diferentes. Essas mulheres foram escolhidas tanto por serem grandes em suas áreas, como por terem algum comentário sobre sua relação com o padrão de beleza. Assim, no livro, depois de cada HQ biográfica, segue o comentário daquela mulher e um pequeno texto sobre sua vida.
This comic book has a original story and five short biographic stories of six different real women. These women were chosen because of their greatness in their careers, but also because of some inspiring quote about their relationship with society’s beauty standard. That way, in the book, after each biographical comic follows a quote by that woman and a little biographic text about their lives.

Em "Além do Espelho", Marina e Lara são duas amigas adolescentes. Andando pela rua, depois da aula, elas encontram um espelho no chão. Ao chegarem na casa de Lara, descobrem que o objeto é mágico e tem o poder de mostrar em sua superfície a história de diferentes mulheres.
No fim do livro, uma fada madrinha aparece no quarto onde as meninas estão. A fada tem uma importante conversa com elas e leva o espelho mágico embora.
In "Além do Espelho" (“Beyond the Mirror”) Marina and Lara are two teenage friends. Walking through the streets after school they find a mirror on the ground. When they get to Lara’s house, the find out the object is magic and it has the power of showing in its surface the story of different women.
At the end of the book, a fairy god mother show up on the bedroom. She has a very important conversation with them and takes the magic mirror with her.

Cada história no livro foi criada com o seguinte processo: primeiro, foi feito um argumento em texto; depois rascunhos de miniaturas das páginas, no caderno de processos; então os layouts (1ª figura) foram feitos em papéis separados para simular o livro, e só então as páginas foram desenhadas (2ª figura) e finalizadas (3ª figura).
Each story on the book was created following this process: first, a text argument was written; then sketches of the pages thumbnails were made; then the pages layout (1st picture) were created, and finally the pages were drawn (2nd picture) and colored (3rd).

O livro foi feito em encadernação artesanal e tem uma sobrecapa. A sobrecapa serve como proteção, e seu verso é um pôster de uma das mulheres homenageadas. A sobrecapa também cria uma lombada para o livro, permitindo que ele seja colocado em pé na livraria ou estante.
The book was made with handmade bookbinding and has a cover that serves a protection but is also as a poster of one of the women mentioned in the book. The second cover also functions as a back for the book so It can be seen standing in a bookshelf at the bookstore or at the readers’ home.
