Pstereo 2017
Multiply and Ashkan Honarvar - The Garden

In cooperation with Multiply, Pstereo has expanded the festival area to include Hagen (The Garden), where I got the chance to create an installation. From the start, I wanted to create something that would invite the festival visitors in, to create an area where they could go to and just relax a bit between the concerts or just enjoy the art. But also it should be something new and EPIC! :)
The size was an important aspect of this project, whatever I was going to create must be huge, because of the large space that was available to us. Music being the main subject at this festival I decided to create a series of collages that were inspired by the lineup of this year. After some skecthes, I decided to create large format heads that were sticking out of the ground that created these surreal effects. My work is almost always handmade and often not very large (A4 or A3 size) So this time I was aiming for Meters and not Centimeters.

Portraits
The original collages are handmade and were only A3 size. These portraits were all inspired by this years lineup at Pstereo music festival here in Norway. I interpreted freely on the music, sometimes on the music genre but also sometimes on the lyrics of the songs.
Large format and laser cutting
From the start, the main idea was to create these large installations that looked similar as the original collages. And we didn't want it to be flat but layered. So every collage layer should be "floating". To achieve this I scanned every part of the collage as high as I could, from there on these files were send to the print shop and every layer was laser cut. here are some examples of print plates we created for this project. Every plate is 2 x 3 M.
Construction
the next phase was the back construction for every head. We needed to create a construction that could hold every head straight and safe. But also windproof! With the biggest head being 3M high we needed a certainty that these large format collages would not fall over. Here are some sketches for the construction we finally build for this project. At the end, we used large format tent plugs to connect the frames to the ground.

Lamps
Besides the heads, we wanted to create a series of lamps as well to light the area at night and create an atmospheric mood to invite the festival guests in the evening as well. Here are the original art works for these lamps.
Lamp shapes and material
Every lamp was created by four parts. The material we printed on was some kind of flexible transparent plastic that let the light through. Again like the heads, we used laser cutting to get the desired shapes. after we got the parts we assembled the lamps. Every lamp consists of two color plates and two illustration plates. Here is an example of one of the 2x3M print plates we send off to the print shop.
The final results
Here are some photos of the final results during the day and night time.
