During our first few days of graphics, we were assigned a poster with the intention of promoting and enlightening students about Sisler's 2018 yearbook. Throughout this assignment, I learned the basics of how to use the Adobe Illustrator program. I decided to incorporate sea green in spite of the school's colour theme because it accentuates the black, white, and hues of red well while being subtle. As well, I have variation in font size and style to make the design look intriguing. As an Adobe Illustrator beginner, this poster was time consuming to create than I initially anticipated, but during the process I became familiar with different tools. With that in mind, I was capable of using my creativity in hopes of coming up with an eye-catching design.

As a second part, we were assigned another poster but with the intention of promoting and encouraging grade twelve students to have their graduation pictures photographed at Sisler. The instructions were to create a design that would easily capture a viewer’s attention. I was satisfied with the appearance of my yearbook poster and therefore i ensured to create my graduation sign up poster in a similar way. As a result, different font sizes and styles were used throughout my work in hopes that it would further emphasize and enhance the design as a whole. Contrary to creating my yearbook poster, I used the Adobe Illustrator program prior to being given this assignment which made me feel at ease and allowed for my design to be executed in an efficient manner. With better knowledge and an increase in experience, my skills continue to improve overtime and ultimately caused the completion process of this poster to be less time-consuming and more enjoyable.

THREE THINGS I LIKE
•In the 2006 yearbook, I like the layout of the senior graduation quotes and their corresponding portraits because it makes the pages look uniform and balanced.
In the 2006 yearbook, I really enjoy how a single font was used throughout the pages because it makes them look more consistent with one another through its minimalism.
In the 2013 yearbook, I was attracted to the alignment of the convocation pictures because it makes the pages look clean and organized.

THREE THINGS I DISLIKE
In the 2006 yearbook on page 62, I despise how student portraits were used to fill in the year, 2006, because it made the page look extremely overwhelming with detail.
In the 2010 yearbook, I dislike the rounded borders around the student graduation portraits because they overpower the simplicity that would have otherwise been portrayed.
In the 2013 yearbook on page 15, I didn't favour how there were many uneven negative spaces because they became focal points and my eyes were drawn to them at first glance.
SKETCHES OF COVER DESIGN IDEAS
COVER & MOCK UP DESIGN IMAGE
We approached this assignment with knowledge of wanting to create a cover that was minimalistic, yet reflects the school's identity in some manner. Our group had trouble with brainstorming designs but after Lysander made the decision to incorporate a spartan and a shield, ideas began to unfold. In order to maintain the balanced appearance exhibited by the cover, hues of red, black, and white were used interchangeably throughout and a gradient was added for more detail as well. We initially liked the concept of adding a word on the back but prior to creating the final copy, we made a definite choice to keep it free of text.

For this assignment we were instructed to search for an image with hues in the same tonal range. I chose to create a colour palette based on this image taken in Oia, Greece because I like its soft hues and it's one of many places that I've always hoped to visit. I enjoyed having the freedom to choose an image of our interest but I did not expect how difficult and overwhelming deciding between infinite amounts of photos would be. Contrary to the struggle I had with determining the image that I wanted to use, rearranging the colours in a way that complimented each other well was easy and a lot of fun. Throughout the process of creating this assignment on Adobe Illustrator, I learned how to use the eyedropper tool, was exposed to a ton of scenic views, and ultimately gained a stronger appreciation for different places around the world.

We were instructed to design a yearbook page of our choice and with that, my group made the decision of creating pages that would cater to the table of contents. In essence, the lack I experienced of coming up with a concept hindered my ability to complete this assignment immensely as it resulted in the longest completion process thus far. Regardless of the difficulty I had with beginning this page, this assignment gradually became more enjoyable once I had a concept in mind and I was able to expand my general idea. At the end, we decided to use Rae's design because it provides a sufficient balance between photos and text in a simplistic, yet effective manner.  For our final layout, we placed the same background from the yearbook cover design, kept the triangles congruent, added triangular symbols, and realigned the text in a way that suits the design best.

SKIN BLEMISH REMOVAL
SMOOTH AND SOFTEN SKIN
CHANGING EYE COLOUR
The objective for this activity was to find an image(s) to improve. Within each tutorial I learned how to use several tools in order to retouch images without them looking unnatural. I used the spot healing brush to remove skin blemishes and applied the high pass filter prior to using the brush tool to have the skin of the second original image appear more smooth and soft. As for the third original image, I was able to modify the iris colour to a pale lilac by using the lasso and brush tool. Although I had no experience with using the Adobe Photoshop program, this activity was relatively easy to complete because the tutorials were straight forward to follow and I became familiar with adjusting necessary layers throughout.

After finding an image to desaturate, I used the magnetic lasso tool to outline the flower petals. After the areas I wanted to remain in colour were selected, I used inverse selection to have the background selected as well. Afterwards, I clicked on desaturate and from there the flower petals remained in colour while the background became black and white. Overall, this activity was fairly easy to complete and was less time-consuming than I anticipated.

GRAD CARD INSPIRATION
For the first image on the left, I like how the design is extremely minimal and yet the intention of the card is clear: it is a graduation announcement card. I also favour the use of a single portrait as the background because it enhances the calligraphy while maintaining the refined look—which I hope to include in my own graduation card. The factors that determined my decision of using the second image as inspiration are the layout of the information and the use of multiple fonts because it makes the card easy to follow. For the final image, I like the concept of creating a collage of photographs and how the card cover further adds a unique element to the design.
SKETCHES OF GRAD CARD IDEAS
GRAD CARD DESIGN
After sketching a variety of graduation cards, I was ultimately unsatisfied with the outcome of my designs and therefore I decided to come up with an entirely new concept. The goal I had in mind during the creation of this card was to create one that was simplistic, used a variation of fonts, and incorporated a collage in some manner. I was able to successfully accomplish my goal by creating a collage on an iPhone app and using the Adobe inDesign program afterwards to add text. In spite of the immense amounts of airdrops and exports performed throughout the completion of this activity, I enjoyed experimenting with different fonts and organizing everything in a way that would make the card easy on the eye.

CINEMAGRAPH 1
The intention of this activity was to explore the art of cinemagraphs. For the initial cinemagraph, we were instructed to pour a substance into an object. After filming, I watched a tutorial on how to edit a video clip on Adobe Photoshop to create a successful illusion and I applied the steps that I learnt throughout to my own. As i neared the end of the editing process, the movement of water gradually became the focal point and began to fulfill my goal of creating an infinite loop effect with no visible breaks. With that in mind, the art behind cinemagraphs; the collection of still images and video relation is truly captivating and I thoroughly enjoyed every creative aspect of completing this activity thus far.
CINEMAGRAPH 2
In the case of my second cinemagraph, I decided to film my sister highlighting a sentence to represent note-taking in school. After watching the tutorial which was used as reference for my initial cinemagraph several times, I struggled a ton with creating a seamless illusion as there were three movements, the highlighter, her hand, and her shadow. Therefore, I used a different Youtube video in comparison to my first as reference instead whilst editing. Prior to importing my video clip on Adobe Photoshop, a filter was added to make everything look rustic. Although the length of this gif is quite short and many frames were deleted, I am just as satisfied with the outcome of my cinemagraph and had just as much fun coming up with a concept.

For this activity, we were given the instructions to create a holiday card. I struggled with coming up with ideas at first but once I had a general design in mind, I modified it several times and decided that this design was essentially how I wanted my holiday card to look like in the end. After finalizing my design and downloading a font, this card was created on Adobe inDesign. Throughout the process of editing, I was able to use my creativity in hopes of coming up with an eye-catching design and learnt how to place images in words by creating text outlines.

The objective for this activity was to restore a damaged, vintage photograph. I initially opened the original photo on Adobe Photoshop then created a new layer. Prior to repairing the cracks and scratches, I learnt how to use the clone stamp and patch tool which were vital to restoring the image. Although restoring the image was not very difficult, it was time-consuming to complete because paying attention to detail was essential throughout. With that in mind, I am satisfied with the outcome of this activity due to the fact that the cracks and scratches are no longer visible.
